Mission

To promote public service and honor public servants who are dedicated to making representative democracy work at the local level.

Goals

• Create a positive understanding of public service as noble work and a laudable career choice.
  
  
• Promote open, civil and respectful participation in local governance.
  
  
• Educate citizens regarding the importance and effectiveness of local government services.

Objectives

• Provide an opportunity for family and friends of public servants to remember and memorialize those who have contributed to the common good.
  
  
• Develop an Internet-based "Local Government Hall of Fame" with online databases that contain:

            – Information on individuals who have served in local                government as appointed or elected officials and who have                made a positive contribution to their communities.

            – A multimedia library of stories recognizing positive local                government projects and accomplishments, which would be                available to schools, community groups and the media.

• Create a "Careers in Local Government" website with links to all of the national associations of local government organizations (e.g., International City & County Management Association (ICMA), National League of Cities (NLC), International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), etc.).
  
  
• Serve as a speakers' bureau and event organizer to promote public service as a career or as a volunteer activity and to recognize / publicize positive accomplishments in local government.
