    It is with great enthusiasm that I submit my resume for the position of Village Manager for the Village of Pleasantville, Illinois.  As the Assistant Village Manager for Happytown, a neighboring community, I am very familiar with Pleasantville and would welcome the opportunity to discuss my credentials with the Village President and Board of Trustees.

    During the nearly eight years I have served in Happytown, I have had the opportunity to work closely with the Village Manager and elected officials on a number of projects important for our community.  These include the adoption of a no-smoking ordinance for all public places, the successful recruitment of a new Director of Public Works and Chief of Police, and the development of annual budgets that have balanced the need for effective, high quality services while remaining within the tax caps.

    I believe that the Village Manager’s position is an important connection between the policy work of the elected officials and the administration of municipal services.  Each year, I worked with the Village Manager, Village President and Board of Trustees to establish a list of goals and objectives for the year.  The Village Manager’s office developed an Implementation Plan for the goals and objectives and regularly updated the Village Board on the status of the plan.  In addition, I worked closely with the Department Heads and senior staff to develop annual work plans that were coordinated with the Board’s goals and objectives.  

    During my tenure in Happytown, I have been accessible to residents, participated in community activities, and developed successful partnerships with the other units of local government and the business community.  I believe this experience and approach to municipal management is compatible with the expectations of the Pleasantville community.
