Alexander Weiss
Alexander Weiss is Vice President of The PAR Group and head of the firm’s Public Safety practice. He has over thirty years experience as a public safety practitioner, researcher trainer, and consultant.
Dr. Weiss comes to The PAR group from Northwestern University, where for nine years he was director of the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety and Professor of Management and Strategy at the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
Prior to his appointment at Northwestern Dr. Weiss was a member of the faculty of the department of criminal justice at Indiana University, Bloomington. During that time he also served as a senior advisor to the Indianapolis Police Department and Indianapolis Mayor Stephen Goldsmith, where he was instrumental in the department’s implementation of crime control strategy sessions and enhanced information systems. Dr. Weiss also has twelve years of experience with law enforcement agencies in Colorado. During his tenure with the Colorado Springs Police Department he served as a field supervisor and director of operations analysis.
Dr. Weiss has written and lectured widely on topics such as resource allocation and work scheduling, police innovation, highway safety, program evaluation, and racial profiling. While at Northwestern he directed the Illinois Traffic Stop Study, an analysis of racial bias among some 1100 Illinois Law enforcement agencies. He has served as a consultant to the National Institute of Justice and the National Research Council. Recent public management engagements include the Peoria, Illinois Police Department, the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department, and the Arkansas State Police.
Dr. Weiss earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Colorado and a Ph.D. in Political Science from Northwestern University.
