Growing, historic, full-service community located in southeast Wisconsin, seeks experienced public works professionals to lead its Public Works Department consisting of 119 full time employees and $8.9 million operating budget plus $10.5 million wastewater treatment facility budget and $5 million annual capital budget. An award winning community, Waukesha is undergoing considerable residential and commercial growth with $16 million of new development in its historic downtown in the last three years. Downtown development highlights include a thriving art district, new restaurants and the recently completed two mile Riverwalk. The City is seeking candidates with a record of significant accomplishment in a full-service, growing community that offers a full range of public works services including snow and ice control, wastewater treatment, solid waste collection, curbside leaf collection, street maintenance, and engineering. Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field required plus seven to ten years increasingly responsible public works management experience as department head in similar community or Assistant/Department Head in larger community or combination of relevant experience and training. Professional engineering designation preferred. Strong general management and administrative leadership background, labor relations experience, outstanding organizational skills, plus proven interpersonal communication skills and well developed writing skills required.
