PUBLIC WORKS MAGAZINE
ADDRESSES THE ISSUE OF HOW PUBLIC AGENCIES MUST DEAL WITH BABY BOOMER
RETIREMENTS
The May
issue of Public Works looks at the need to attract younger workers and
how public agencies must change along with the changing workforce in order to
attract young professionals.
PAR Group President Heidi Voorhees, in an interview with the magazine, says,
“We're seeing a real crisis in numbers right now, and it's only going to get
worse. So far, we're seeing shortages of front-line supervisors, finance
officers, and public works directors—particularly those with PEs.”
Public agencies need to reexamine benefits and policies. “The younger generation coming up wants flexibility,” explains Voorhees. “We need to find a way to give it to them.”
