EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR FOR PARKS AND RECREATION
NORTHBROOK PARK DISTRICT

The Northbrook Park District (population 34,688) is located primarily within the beautiful suburban community of Northbrook, 26 miles north of downtown Chicago in northern Cook County. The Northbrook Park District was established in 1927 and is governed by a seven member Board of Commissioners elected by the residents of the Northbrook Park District. The Board of Commissioners is seeking a highly qualified Park and Recreation Executive to lead its organization of 66 full time employees and 875 part-time, seasonal, and temporary employees. The Park District has a $21 million budget and enjoys a Aaa bond rating. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Commissioners and is responsible for the management and operations associated with 19 parks spread out over 515 acres. In addition, the Executive Director is responsible for more than 1300 recreational programs at the district’s recreational facilities including two outdoor swimming pools, an indoor program facility, two indoor ice rinks, two golf courses, 24 baseball diamonds, 12 soccer fields, 24 tennis courts, 12 trails, two fishing lakes and a theater. The Board of Commissioners seeks an Executive Director with a proven track record in the management and operation of parks and recreation programs. The Executive Director must also possess excellent leadership and management skills, financial acumen, as well as demonstrated oral and written communication abilities. The ability to work collaboratively with an engaged citizenry, a large cadre of volunteers, and other local government taxing districts is essential. Experience with state and federal grant processes is desirable. Successful candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation, Public or Business Administration or related field. A Master’s degree as well as designation as a Certified Park and Recreation Professional is highly desirable. Candidates should have seven to ten years increasingly responsible management and operations experience in parks and recreation in a community of similar size and demographic. Starting Salary: $ 135,000 +/- plus excellent benefits, negotiable dependent on qualifications and experience. Residency is desired but not required.
