The Northern Suburban Special Recreation Association is an intergovernmental partnership of nine park districts, two cities, and two villages in the north suburban Chicago area. NSSRA provides and facilitates year round recreation programs and services for children and adults with disabilities who live in the partner communities. The partner agencies include Deerfield Park District, Glencoe Park District, Glenview Park District, Park District of Highland Park, City of Highwood, Kenilworth Park District, Lake Bluff Park District, Lake Forest Recreation Department, Northbrook Park District, Northfield Park District, Village of Riverwoods, Wilmette Park District and Winnetka Park District. NSSRA has 15 full time staff and hundreds of part-time employees and/or volunteers that provide more than 700 programs to approximately 5,000 participants annually. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for the management and operation of the agency which has a budget of $3,277,000. The Board of Directors seeks a qualified candidate with a diverse background in the therapeutic management field, preferably with a public agency. The Executive Director must also possess excellent leadership and management skills, financial acumen, as well as strong oral and written communication abilities combined with keen listening skills. The ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of stakeholder groups and a large cadre of volunteers is essential. Successful candidates should have seven to ten years of increasingly responsible management and operations experience and possess a bachelor’s degree in therapeutic recreation or a related field. A Master’s degree is highly desirable as is experience in working with a board of directors or fundraising board. Starting Salary: $90,000-120,000 +/- plus excellent benefits.
