Chandler, AZ, (pop. 250,000) The City of Chandler has transformed from a small agricultural town at the turn of the 20th Century, to the High Tech Oasis in the Silicon Desert of today. The Department of Public Works seeks a new Street Operations Manager to oversee 55 employees in the functional areas of: street and alley maintenance, street sweeping, right of ways (including landscaping), and storm water. Position reports to the Deputy Public Works Director. The Department envisions streets maintenance to increase in importance as the City approaches build out and the infrastructure nears its life cycle expectations. In addition to an understanding of construction and maintenance techniques, candidates should have supervisory and organizational skills in financial projection and cost keeping, personnel and labor relations, information and pavement management systems, customer service, and oral and written presentations. Candidates should also be open to new technologies and sustainable development practices, doing more with less, and comfortable dealing with a diverse citizenry that spans the entire socio-economic cultural spectrum. A college degree in an appropriate field, significant (5-7 years) experience working in or with the public sector in a comparable supervisory capacity is preferred.
